This diff adds to miniooni support for using the torsf tunnel. Such a
tunnel consists of a snowflake pluggable transport in front of a custom
instance of tor and requires tor to be installed.
The usage is like:
```
./miniooni --tunnel=torsf [...]
```
The default snowflake rendezvous method is "domain_fronting". You can
select the AMP cache instead using "amp":
```
./miniooni --snowflake-rendezvous=amp --tunnel=torsf [...]
```

We introduce the -f, --input-file FILE option with which we
are able to run an OONI Run v2 descriptor stored locally.
In this running mode, there are no checks related to whether the
descriptor has changed, since we're dealing with a local file.
Closes https://github.com/ooni/probe/issues/2328
As silly as it seems, emojis help _a lot_ when eyeballing logs
to quickly identify unexpected lines.
I'm doing this work as part of https://github.com/ooni/probe/issues/2257
Most of miniooni panics on errors. We should not panic on error with
--repeat-every, rather we should try the next measurement.

to allow swapping commands and options more freely.
As a side effect, this PR closes https://github.com/ooni/probe/issues/2248.
AFAICT, every usage that was legal before is still legal. What has
changed seems the freedom to swap commands and options and a much
better help that lists the available options.
This diff splits miniooni's implementation in smaller and more
easily tractable blocks ahead of future refactoring.
I'm trying to make `miniooni oonirun -i URL` as possible as
`miniooni -i URL oonirun`, because users typically expect this
kind of flexibity from modern Unix commands.

I made a mistake while adapting code from an experimental branch thus
breaking these two experiments because of interface conversion.
This diff fixes it.
While there, remove the panic trap for miniooni. Because miniooni is
an experimental tool, we want to see the full panic text, which definitely
leads to a more pleasant and effective debugging experience.
See https://github.com/ooni/probe/issues/2216 for context on why we
were trying to change how we register experiments.
The broken commit is 6a0ae5c70b.

This diff refactors the ./internal/cmd/miniooni pkg and moves the code
for running experiments inside of the ./internal/oonirun pkg.
It's the first concrete step towards https://github.com/ooni/probe/issues/2184.
This option has been disabled for a long time and we said in the
codebase we were going to remove it after 2021-11-01.
So, it feels okay to remove it.
This diff is a cleanup in preparation for https://github.com/ooni/probe/issues/2184.
This diff refactors how we set options for experiments to accept
in input an any value or a map[string]any, depending on which method
we choose to actually set options.
There should be no functional change, except that now we're not
guessing the type and then attempting to set the value of the selected
field: now, instead, we match the provided type and the field's type
as part of the same function (i.e., SetOptionAny).
This diff is functional to https://github.com/ooni/probe/issues/2184,
because it will allow us to load options from a map[string]any,
which will be part of the OONI Run v2 JSON descriptor.
If we didn't apply this change, we would only have been to set options
from a map[string]string, which is good enough as a solution for the
CLI but is definitely clumsy when you have to write stuff like:
```JSON
{
"options": {
"HTTP3Enabled": "true"
}
}
```
when you could instead more naturally write:
```JSON
{
"options": {
"HTTP3Enabled": true
}
}
```
This diff changes the software name used by unattended runs for which
we did not override the default software name (`ooniprobe-cli`).
It will become `ooniprobe-cli-unattended`. This software name is in line
with the one we use for Android, iOS, and desktop unattended runs.
While working in this diff, I introduced string constants for the run
types and a string constant for the default software name.
See https://github.com/ooni/probe/issues/2081.

## Description
This PR contains a set of changes to move important interfaces and data types into the `./internal/model` package.
The criteria for including an interface or data type in here is roughly that the type should be important and used by several packages. We are especially interested to move more interfaces here to increase modularity.
An additional side effect is that, by reading this package, one should be able to understand more quickly how different parts of the codebase interact with each other.
This is what I want to move in `internal/model`:
- [x] most important interfaces from `internal/netxlite`
- [x] everything that was previously part of `internal/engine/model`
- [x] mocks from `internal/netxlite/mocks` should also be moved in here as a subpackage
This commit introduces a new `InputLoader` policy by which, if no
input is provided, we use a static default input list.
We also modify the code to use this policy for dnscheck and
stunreachability, with proper input.
We also modify `miniooni` to pass the new `ExperimentName` field to
the `InputLoader` to indicate which default input list to use.
This diff is part of a set of diffs aiming at fixing
https://github.com/ooni/probe/issues/1814 and has been
extracted from https://github.com/ooni/probe-cli/pull/539.
What remains to be done, after this diff has landed is to ensure
things also work for ooniprobe and oonimkall.

This change allows for producing cloud builds using the psiphon
config files. We will add those files as build secrets. Only people
in the organization and collaborators with at least "write"
access could trigger builds containing such secrets.
Before this change, `./mk` unconditionally attempted to clone
github.com/ooni/probe-private. Now, it only checks whether
we need to clone _if_ files are not already there.
This allows us to use GitHub actions and secrets to copy the
files in there _without_ needing to clone a private repo.
Cloning a private repo would require us to include as repository
secret an access token with full `repo` scope, which is a very
broad scope. Instead, by using secrets to include psiphon config,
we are narrowing down the secrets required to make a release build.
See https://github.com/ooni/probe/issues/1878
This diff WILL require forward porting to the master branch.
This is required to implement websteps, which is currently tracked
by https://github.com/ooni/probe/issues/1733.
We introduce the concept of async runner. An async runner will
post measurements on a channel until it is done. When it is done,
it will close the channel to notify the reader about that.
This change causes sync experiments now to strictly return either
a non-nil measurement or a non-nil error.
While this is a pretty much obvious situation in golang, we had
some parts of the codebase that were not robust to this assumption
and attempted to submit a measurement after the measure call
returned an error.
Luckily, we had enough tests to catch this change in our assumption
and this is why there are extra docs and tests changes.
We're currently use jafar for QA and jafar is a better mechanism,
even though it is not portable outside of Linux.
This self censorship mechanism was less cool and added a bunch
of (also cognitive) complexity to netx.
If we ever want to go down a self censorship like road, we probably
want to do as little work as possible in the problem and as much
work as possible inside a helper like jafar.

* refactor(atomicx): move outside the engine package
After merging probe-engine into probe-cli, my impression is that we have
too much unnecessary nesting of packages in this repository.
The idea of this commit and of a bunch of following commits will instead
be to reduce the nesting and simplify the structure.
While there, improve the documentation.
* fix: always use the atomicx package
For consistency, never use sync/atomic and always use ./internal/atomicx
so we can just grep and make sure we're not risking to crash if we make
a subtle mistake on a 32 bit platform.
While there, mention in the contributing guidelines that we want to
always prefer the ./internal/atomicx package over sync/atomic.
* fix(atomicx): remove unnecessary constructor
We don't need a constructor here. The default constructed `&Int64{}`
instance is already usable and the constructor does not add anything to
what we are doing, rather it just creates extra confusion.
* cleanup(atomicx): we are not using Float64
Because atomicx.Float64 is unused, we can safely zap it.
* cleanup(atomicx): simplify impl and improve tests
We can simplify the implementation by using defer and by letting
the Load() method call Add(0).
We can improve tests by making many goroutines updated the
atomic int64 value concurrently.
* refactor(fsx): can live in the ./internal pkg
Let us reduce the amount of nesting. While there, ensure that the
package only exports the bare minimum, and improve the documentation
of the tests, to ease reading the code.
* refactor: move runtimex to ./internal
* refactor: move shellx into the ./internal package
While there, remove unnecessary dependency between packages.
While there, specify in the contributing guidelines that
one should use x/sys/execabs instead of os/exec.
* refactor: move ooapi into the ./internal pkg
* refactor(humanize): move to ./internal and better docs
* refactor: move platform to ./internal
* refactor(randx): move to ./internal
* refactor(multierror): move into the ./internal pkg
* refactor(kvstore): all kvstores in ./internal
Rather than having part of the kvstore inside ./internal/engine/kvstore
and part in ./internal/engine/kvstore.go, let us put every piece of code
that is kvstore related into the ./internal/kvstore package.
* fix(kvstore): always return ErrNoSuchKey on Get() error
It should help to use the kvstore everywhere removing all the
copies that are lingering around the tree.
* sessionresolver: make KVStore mandatory
Simplifies implementation. While there, use the ./internal/kvstore
package rather than having our private implementation.
* fix(ooapi): use the ./internal/kvstore package
* fix(platform): better documentation
* feat: create tunnel inside NewSession
We want to create the tunnel when we create the session. This change
allows us to nicely ignore the problem of creating a tunnel when we
already have a proxy, as well as the problem of locking. Everything is
happening, in fact, inside of the NewSession factory.
Modify miniooni such that --tunnel is just syntactic sugar for
--proxy, at least for now. We want, in the future, to teach the
tunnel to possibly use a socks5 proxy.
Because starting a tunnel is a slow operation, we need a context in
NewSession. This causes a bunch of places to change. Not really a big
deal except we need to propagate the changes.
Make sure that the mobile code can create a new session using a
proxy for all the APIs we support.
Make sure all tests are still green and we don't loose coverage of
the various ways in which this code could be used.
This change is part of https://github.com/ooni/probe/issues/985.
* changes after merge
* fix: only keep tests that can hopefully work
While there, identify other places where we should add more
tests or fix integration tests.
Part of https://github.com/ooni/probe/issues/985
This diff breaks the circular dependency between session and
tunnel, by introducing the concept of early session.
An early session is a session that is able to fetch the psiphon
configuration file _only_ if it's embedded in the binary.
This breaks `miniooni --tunnel=psiphon` for users who have
access to the OONI backend. They are not the users we are
writing this feature for, though, so I think this is reasonable.
At the same time, this opens up the possibility of creating
a psiphon tunnel when constructing a session, which is the
approach I was following in https://github.com/ooni/probe-cli/pull/286.
This work is part of https://github.com/ooni/probe/issues/985.
Once this diff is in, I can land https://github.com/ooni/probe-cli/pull/286.
* feat(tunnel): introduce persistent tunnel state dir
This diff introduces a persistent state directory for tunnels, so that
we can bootstrap them more quickly after the first time.
Part of https://github.com/ooni/probe/issues/985
* fix: make tunnel dir optional
We have many tests where it does not make sense to explicitly
provide a tunnel dir because we're not using tunnels.
This should simplify setting up a session.
* fix(tunnel): repair tests
* final changes
* more cleanups
* fix(pkg.go.dev): import a subpackage containing the assets
We're trying to fix this issue that pkg.go.dev does not build.
Thanks to @hellais for this very neat idea! Let's keep our
fingers crossed and see whether it fixes!
* feat: use embedded geoip databases
Closes https://github.com/ooni/probe/issues/1372.
Work done as part of https://github.com/ooni/probe/issues/1369.
* fix(assetsx): add tests
* feat: simplify and just vendor uncompressed DBs
* remove tests that seems not necessary anymore
* fix: run go mod tidy
* Address https://github.com/ooni/probe-cli/pull/260/files#r605181364
* rewrite a test in a better way
* fix: gently cleanup the legacy assetsdir
Do not remove the whole directory with brute force. Just zap the
files whose name we know. Then attempt to delete the legacy directory
as well. If not empty, just fail. This is fine because it means the
user has stored other files inside the directory.
* fix: create .miniooni if missing
We used to have an external package called libminiooni so that
third parties could use it. We wrote this such that we could
support github.com/bassosimone/aladdin.
That was actually a not-so-good idea because it added to the APIs
we needed to maintain.
Since the merge of engine into cli, such an API is not public
anymore and aladdin has been deprecated and archived.
Therefore, we can now cleanup the situation and merge libminiooni
into miniooni again, thus making the codebase more local.
This cleanup has been identified while working on
https://github.com/ooni/probe/issues/1299.
* refactor: miniooni should be outside of the engine
This is part of https://github.com/ooni/probe/issues/1335. We also need
to think whether we wanna keep libminiooni and miniooni separated.
The previous use case for having a top-level libminiooni was that of
enabling others to integrate miniooni into other binaries.
This was usegul when studying internet censorship in Spain in May 2020.
I am wondering whether we should be keeping this complexity. I am not
sure about this and probably we should be killing it.
(In any case, reducing complexity is not the objective of this diff,
since I would like instead to move things around with minimal changes
and make sure we have a ~good repository organization here.)
* fix: import in libminiooni
